specifications, the Neve 33609JD
Stereo Compressor offers
comprehensive limiting and
compression facilities for music
recording, mastering, post
production and broadcast
applications. The combination of
hand-wired transformers and gain
reduction circuitry produces a sound
quality which is often duplicated,
yet seldom achieved by any other
compressor / limiter. Coupled with
the unit’s unparalleled ease of use,
this inimitable sound quality has
made the 33609 a worldwide studio
standard for three decades.
The hallmark 33609 compression sound
is very smooth, and extreme settings
may be used with the compression or
limiting remaining relatively
transparent. After several versions
of this classic Neve compressor over
the years, today's 33609JD provides
the best of both worlds: original
Neve 33609 sound, with enhanced
internal and external I/O switching
compared to the original model. The
33609JD also utilises a discrete
output stage like the original
model, for a slightly warmer sound
that is preferred by many
professionals over previous
iterations. Multiple units can be
easily linked for multi-channel
operation.

Acclaimed 88 Series Equalization in a
USB-compatible Rack Unit
Part of the exclusive Neve 88 Series, the 8803 is a
dual channel equalizer and filter. Like the other
units in the 88 series collection, the 8803 is
hand-made and hand-wired in Burnley, England, and
delivers legendary Neve sound with digitally
recallable settings via USB connection to Mac or PC.
This is an outstanding tool for creative
flexibility, allowing Neve’s legendary analogue
processing to be used as never before in
collaboration with computer workstations.
Designed to deliver the inimitable sound of the
flagship Neve 88RS console, the 8803 Dual
Equalizer’s circuitry is based on the classic Neve
8108 topology. Balanced inputs and ±20dB trim are
followed by two 12dB per octave filters. The
High-Pass Filter has a variable corner frequency
from 25Hz to 300Hz, and the Low-Pass Filter has a
range of 3kHz-15kHz. The four bands of equalization
offer selectable shelving and switchable Q on the
high and low bands, with continuously variable Q on
the mid frequency bands. Frequency selection is
variable on all bands within the ranges 33Hz-440Hz,
120Hz-2kHz, 0.8kHz-9kHz and 1.5kHz-18kHz.

The simplicity of the dual-channel
standalone DynaMaxx version also characterizes the new RackPack
module: with just two controls, Compression and Make Up Gain, the
DynaMaxx surprises with its disarmingly simple user interface. Our
developer Vincenzo Triolo got a hard job to transfer the original
circuits to the extremely compact module format, but he succeeded
extremely well – controversies about the better version are still
going on here.

Back in the 1990's, we developed an alternative
way to process signals in order to reduce sibilance based on phase
cancellation. Unlike the traditional compression methods, this
processing is much more unobtrusive and simplifies control to one
single parameter. The SPL De-Esser quickly became a standard
reference among recording studios, broadcast stations and live sound
engineers.
The new
Dual-Band De-Esser module expands on this concept by making use
of two frequency bands. Two de-esser stages increase the
effectiveness of the processing without introducing any audible
artifacts. At the same time, processing can be much more targeted,
since the low and high bands can be used together or independently.
Furthermore, input signals are automatically adjusted so the
processing is uniform, regardless of the distance between source and
microphone, and the Male/Female button allow it to perfectly adapt
to male or female voices.

The TwinTube module is a tube effects
processor to apply typical tube sound effects to any signal. Tube
saturation can be regulated to add subtle to heavy tube distortions
for more punch and rougher sounds. The Harmonics control enhances the
presence of a signal and allows for example to move signals up front
in a mix. In general, the top end can be sweetened with the nice touch
of tube harmonics. Both effects can be used separately or
simultaneously. Main studio and live applications are in single track
processing.

Modular EQ modules are nothing new, but with the Ranger EQ modules we
followed an entirely musical approach: center frequencies, amplitudes
and bandwidths are not chosen from a technical view, but optimized for
certain instruments.
The Full Ranger module is the necessary exception in this concept:
with ISO frequencies to process the whole frequency range, the Full
Ranger can be used as as a versatile addition to the specialized
versions.
Musical optimization makes sense soundwise and allows to configure
highly specialized EQ systems without having to decide for a final
status – there is always the option to upgrade an existing package
with another EQ module.

E Series Modules reproduce the legendary sonic signature of
an early 80’s classic, the SL 4000 E console channel strip,
which was featured on countless 1980’s recordings.
The E Series
EQ Module features two different EQ’s found on editions of
the console produced between 1979 and 1987. Each EQ has
unique response curves and tonal character. They are
distinguished by the colors used on the LF knob caps so the
two flavors have become known as the ‘Brown’ and ‘Black’
EQ’s. On the E Series EQ Module you can switch between these
two different flavors of EQ that have been loved by
generations of professional producers.

original unit. The compressor contains
additional switching options to defeat the
over-easy curve and to use a linear release
instead of the more usual logarithmic curve. The
result is a compressor with three distinct
voices, each with its own musical character.
